FAQ

Do you live in Japan

No, I live in Michigan in the USA. I visit Japan roughly every other year for in-person research (and fun!)

Why do you call yourself a hobby historian?

I have no academic training in being a historian and don’t wish to offend those that do. History is just a major passion of mine. I do have backgrounds in research as well as art conservation. I strive to bring the most accurate information I can present to you. My goal is to be a communicator of Japanese history and how the Japanese have influenced the history of other nations.

What resources do you use to do your research?

My local library is a big one! Although they do not have the books directly, they are able to order in books from other libraries across the state, including major college campuses in my area including MSU and U of M. Other sources are various academic journals, the 100+ books on Japanese History from my personal library, and online resources. See more in my resources section.

Can you help me with my school report?

Although I cannot do the paper nor the research for you, I can definitely point you in the right direction of books and articles to read if you cannot find some help in my resources section, feel free to send me an email.

Why do you avoid covering WW1/WW2

I feel there are way more qualified YouTubers that cover such topics. I do cover the events of the impact of the war on the Japanese, especially the Japanese internment camps in America. This is a very passionate topic that I feel does not get enough coverage.
